I was envisioning wrong.
I guess its more accurate to say I was "under-envisioning." There was wine, there was chit chat, and there was definite flipping from one news station to the next. But it didn't stop there, oh no. We were instructed not to bring anything, that there would be plenty of whatever we wanted. And lordy, was there.
Plenty of wine, along with a vast assortment of beer and cocktails, such as:
And of course, kool aid. Have you had yours yet?
And treats, too! What are these, you might ask?
Why, those are...
And as if the cupcakes weren't cute enough, someone brought this homemade beauty:
And then! Then there was the party decor. I was grinning the instant I walked through the door and came face to face with That One.
Even the dogs were decorated.
There were definitely more than a "few" people there (is it tacky to mention that Christopher Lloyd and Kenny Loggins were in attendance? It is? Oh. Nevermind, then.)
When this happened--
--everyone went nuts. I shrieked and then I started to cry, and I wasn't the only one. High fives, hugs, cheers...there was so much pure joy mixed with palpable relief in that house at that moment, and I will never forget it as long as I live. It was definitely time for this:
Despite the energetic hum of friendly chatter in the air, lips were zipped and you could have heard a pin drop in that room during Obama's acceptance speech.
After the projected winner announcement, after the speeches both concession and acceptance, after the general merriment that ensued, we were treated to some live music, dontchaknow.
Despite the announcement happening at 8pm, we didn't get home until close to midnight. I was definitely not sober. This morning was a little rough, but oh so worth it. Having a president who finally makes me proud to be an American again is worth every single nanosecond of being exhausted. Here's to a glorious change of direction!
